A statistical method for atomic nuclei is developed, in which the effective potential is the density-dependent non-local reaction matrix in the nuclear matter. This method is applied to the calculation of the surface thickness, t, and the surface energy, E_s, of heavy nuclei, and the following results are obtained: t=(2.8~3.0)×10^<-13> cm E_s=(23~28)A^<2/3>Mev.
