Inclusive Reaction γp→π^-+X^<++> Mediated by Vector Meson Production

The inclusive reaction γp→π^-+X^<++> is investigated under the following assumptions: a) The pion spectrum results from the ρ meson decay, b) the vector meson dominance model for the photon is valid and c) distributions for favoured and disfavoured fragments are different. A simple ρ distribution scaling at relatively low energies leads quite well to the π^- longitudinal distribution, with the effect of the "elastic" reaction γp→ρ^0p excluded. The spectrum has the following features: 1) It increases in the central region and decreases in the proton fragmentation region as energy increases and 2) its slope is gentle in the photon fragmentation region. The π^- distribution integrated over q bottom^2 is predicted at E_γ=18, 30 and 100 GeV. Further, the inclusive reaction pp→π^-+X^<3+> is supplementarily explored in a way consistent with γp→π^-+X^<++> to see that the proton fragmentations have the same distribution irrespective of the impact p and γ. The increase of the distribution in the region |x_π|prsim0.1 with energy is well reproduced.
