The behavior of the πN-S_<31> amplitude on the Argand diagram is reproduced up to ~1800 MeV quite well by the two-channel model consisting of the πN and ρN channels under the following dynamical situation. The resonance in the ρN channel appears in the πN channel by a weak channel coupling, where the πN pure elastic amplitude works as the repulsive background. Another two-channel model consisting of the πN and πΔ is also able to reproduce the πN-S_<31> amplitude qualitatively by the similar dynamical situation stated above. The πN-P_<31> and P_<13> amplitudes which have a structure similar to the S_<31>, can also be understood as inelastic resonances with the repulsive background.
