The pair distribution function g(r) and the density distribution n(r|v) in the presence of an external potential identical with the interatomic potential of the system v(r) in a degenerate electron liquid, are calculated by solving an integral equation for the density-density canonical correlation X_Q; this integral equation has the same structure as that of Singwiet al. except that the structure factor S(Q) has been replaced by x_Q/X^0_Q where X^0_Q is the density-density canonical correlation of the noninteracting system. The pair distribution function g(r) in the present calculation remains positive at small distances r even at r_S=6 and coincides with the Singwi et al. result at large distances, and n(r|v) agrees with the result obtained by Sjolander and Stott from their integral equation which has taken account of nonlinear effects.
