Intermediate Δ(1236) Resonance Effects in the Backward p-d Elastic Scattering

Effects of the intermediate Δ(1236) resonance are investigated in the backward p-d elastic scattering, without using the observed p+p→d+π^+ and π-N cross sections. A two-loop diagram is evaluated by using Rarita-Schwinger propagator representing the intermediate Δ(1236) resonence. The integration of the invariant amplitude is performed in a general reference system. The cross sections for the scattering are calculated at proton lab. energies from 0.3 to 1.5 GeV. At angles θ_<c.m.>=180^<°> and 168^<°>, the calculation reproduces the hump of the cross sections observed around 0.6 GeV. This indicates that the contribution of the intermediate Δ(1236) resonance dominates the cross sections in the energy region.
