The dynamical collapse of infinite plane-symmetric gas clouds is investigated as a limiting case in order to clarify the final phases of collapse of non-spherical clouds. It is shown that a contracting plane-symmetric cloud bounces when and only when γ is positive. The dynamical evolution of infinite plane-symmetric clouds is investigated up to the onset stage of quasistatic equilibrium neglecting the cooling of the clouds. Computation is made starting from various initial states, and it is found in all cases the cloud has an isothermal central layer with a mass fraction between 0.2 and 0.4 and an outer layer with high entropy when the cloud has attained a hydrostatic equilibrium.
