Our bodies are truly amazing. When one part suffers, the billions of cells in the entire body share in that suffering. Even a small thorn leads to pain in all parts of the body. Society is the same as a human body. If one member of society is weak, everyone in society shares in that weakness. Solidarity means mutual support. In a body, each part is mutually helpful, mutually supportive. It is said that concern for our own food is a physical matter, but concern for the food of others is a spiritual matter. Japan since the war has been concened about its own food, leading to remarkable economic progress. But in the process Japan has created a society that has lost the human element. Do we know the meaning of life? The value of life? The goal of life? We must change the system. Many problems can be solved if there is money, but money doesn't solve everything. Technological advances do not eliminate the requirement for people. People are the life of welfare, the life of education, the life of medical care-people relating to people.
