The percentage of electric power devoted to lighting is estimated to be 10-13% in most countries. Therefore, development of energy-saving light sources is under development throughout the world. The most common source of household lighting, the incandescent lamp has only one fourth to one third the efficiency of a fluorescent lamp. However, the necessity for ballast and special equipment prevents a more widespread use of fluorescent lamps. The screw-in type fluorescent lamp introduced here in an attractively designed light source. It consumes much less energy than the incandescent lamp but, with built in ballast, operates when merely screwed into a socket normally used for incandescent lamps. This lamp contains in one unitized structure a small, circular shaped fluorescent lamp, a resistance ballast for stabilization, and a starter. This lamp is economical, it achieves the same brightness as a 60 w incandescent lamp with a power consumption of only 35 w. Thus power consumption is 40% less while its useful life is five times longer than that of the incandescent lamps. when this lamp is substituted for a 60 w incandescent lamp, approximately 26 lit. of oil can be saved during its life. This screw-in type fluorescent lamp is attractively designed with a simple shape. It is light in weight (220 gr.) and the shade in available in three colors.
