To determine the molecular basis of the tissue-specific expression of BSP and its regulation by steroid horm ones we have isolated and characterized the promoter regiouns of rat BSP genes. Within the immediate promoter region a putative vitamin D3 response element overlaps a inverted TATA box, and a putative glucocorticoid response element, presentabotut 1Kb further upstream.
