High tension voltage in X-ray apparatus or the others is usually measured by multiplying the transformer ratio to the reading of the primary voltage. But this conventional method gives a very rough value, for the secondary voltage of the transformer or the out-put voltage of a high tension apparatus containing rectifying valves and condensers is a complicated function of load and wave form and varies to a great extent from the value obtained by the above method. Many high tension voltmeters or kilovoltmeters are known in the literature or used practically for example Starke-Schroder type. All of them are of large fixed types and troblesome and complicated corrections have to be applied. To remove these deficiencies and to obtain more accurate results, a new precise portable peak kilovoltmeter, combining a fine potential divider with a p-type valve voltmeter circuit has been constructed in the present work. This instrument has many advantages : easy making, easy handling and direct indication of the out-put voltage at every instant and error less than 1%. With this instrument high tension voltage, estimated by the primary voltmeter can be checked, and the voltage regulation of the transformer can be measured. (Recelved February 28, 1952)
