• The author herein presents a case of a nineteen year old female patient who had been suffering from hyperventilation syndrome associated with a 6 Hz spile and wave complex on the EEG.She was a conveesion hysteria in view of psychological mechanisms at the onset.A 6 Hz spike and wave complex was regarded as a electroencephalographic manifestation of functional fragility in the rostral parts of the brain-stem involving autonomic and emotional centers.The author deduced that, when defense mechanisms acted on her, it converted to locus minoris resistentiae (brain-stem) and hyperventilation syndrome developed.
