As a starting point for considering the healing mechanisms of psychosomatic diseases, two cases-one, a 31 year-old unmarried man whose complaint was fatigue. and the other, a 50 year-old man whose complaint was phos phobia were studied, and, according to the special characteristics of various stages in therapeutic courses, were compared with each other. In particular, the meaning of the concept of cure was discussed. Next, the way of life or life-design of the patient was analysed in relation to his life history and the course of his disease. From this it was verified that the cured case showed a marked change in his inner attitude. That is, the patient became more self-reliant and self-decisive in his way of life because of the re-experience of the importance of accomplishing the goal he himself sets. Consideration of these facts suggested that the clarification of a change in the 'inner attitude' of the patient was significant in understanding the healing mechanisms.
