In order to make a clinical application of microvibration (abbreviated to MV in the following) to the examination of the autonomic function, MV patterns were recorded before and after Mecholyl loading in 51 cases who were suffering from unidentified clinical syndromes. These cases were compared with control subjects, and the relation between MV and various psychological tests (Cornell Medical Index, Yatabe-Guilford personality test, Manifest Anxiety Scale and Self-Rating Questionnaire for Depression) were examined. The results were as follows : MV patterns were divided into four types ; MV-S type, MV-N type, MV-F type and MV-I type.MV-S type was charcterized by dominant θ wave, MV-N type by dominant α wave with regular pattern, MV-F type by dominant β wave and MV-I type by irregular pattern with α wave dominant. As compared with Mecholyl test, a distinct relationship was found between MV-N type and Mecholyl N-type (normoreactor).According to the autonomic function, MV-N type was considered to be normal, while MV-S, MV-F and MV-I type were abnormal. At resting MV record, the prolongation of stable time was obtained in 66.9% of the patients with unidentified clinical syndromes. P-type (sympathetic hyporeactor) in Mecholyl test was increased more in the presence of θ wave especially after 5 minutes as compared with S-type (sympathetic hyperreactor). On the contrary, S-type in Mecholyl test was increased in θ wave and P-type was increased remarkably in β wave after loading.Abnormal MV patterns were obtained in 77.8% of P-type, 71.5% of S and N-type.Concerning CMI, abnormal MV patterns were observed in 75.0% of I-type, 76.9% of II-type and 63.2% of IV-type resembling to the prolongation of stable time on MV record. No distinct relationship was found between MV patterns (abnormal MV and the prolongation of stable time) and the personality types of Yatabe-Guilford test.In each high score group of MAS, abnormal MV pattern was obtained in 60.0% and the prolongation of stable time on MV record appeared in 56.5%.Abnormal MV pattern was observed in 71.4% of high scores of SRQ-D group, and stable time was much higher in these group than low scores of SRQ-D group. There were distinct relationships between MV pattern and SRQ-D as well as between mecholyl type and SRQ-D.The fluctuation in high or low scores of SRQ-D and MAS were almost paralle.
