The root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne mali n.sp. was decribed. The species is commonly found on apple root in the northern part of Japan and has been referred to a species closely related to Meloidogyne arenaria. Morphology of the male and newly hatched larva, as well as the perineal patten of the female, were carefully examined and compared with those of other species. The female perineal pattern is characterized most by large phasmids, phasmids wider apart than the length of vulval slit, much shorter length of vulval slit than those of the closely related species, a slight elevation of a portion of cuticle surrounding anus and vulva, and so on. In male, the dorsal esophageal gland orifice is located as more backward as 8μ posterior to stylet base than those of other species. The larva has comparatively shorter lengths of body and tail. Other host plants include cherry, rose, vine, and mulberry.
