Corpora allata from Bombyx pupae and moths were implanted into brainless Polyphemus and Cecropia pupae that were chilled. The procedure was followed by the appearance of the pupal-adult mixtures of 1 out of 22 preparations in Polyphemus, and 15 out of 24 preparations in Cecropia. Moths appeared in both groups, but more Polyphemus pupae had failed to develop at the end of 40 days. The diversity in the results of heterologous endocrine transplantation between lepidoptera diapausing in egg and in pupal stages and in the results of homografting in Bombyx indicates a corresponding diversity in hormonal balance and/or state of responsiveness of sensitie tissues.
