Attractiveness of the Synthetic Sex Pheromone to the Males of the Armyworm, Leucania separata WALKER and the Lorey Leafworm, Leucania loreyi DUPONCHEL (Lepidoptera : Noctuidae)

Previously (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate and (Z)-11-hexadecenol were reported as the sex pheromone components of the armyworm, Leucania separata. High trap catches of the released males in the greenhouse were obtained with a mixture of the acetate and the alcohol in a ratio of 9 : 1 or 4 : 1 with the amount of a range of 0.1 to 1 mg. Attractiveness of the samples in rubber caps were shown to be equal to that of the trap baited with 10 females. The attractiveness of the compounds was shown in the filed with 1 mg of the 9 : 1 mixture or the 4 : 1 mixture in the rubber cap and persisted more than 1 month. On the contrary, in the greenhouse test of the trap catch with the released male lorey leafworm, L. loreyi, a 9 : 1 mixture of (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate and (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate showed a high attractancy as same as the 0.8 : 8 : 2 mixture of (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate, (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate and (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate.
