In silkworm larvae infected with TIV, the iridescence was observed in the silk gland, dermal gland, muscle, dorsal vessel and trachea. Histological sections showed the presence of patches of material rich in deoxyribounucleic acid in the cytoplasm of cells of the silk gland, dermal gland, epidermis, fat body, muscle and tracheal epithelium. Electron micrographs of ultrathin sections of the epidermal cells and dermal grands revealed the cytoplasm of these cells to contain masses of electron-dense material and virus particles. In the silkworm pupae infected with TIV, the iridescence was observed in the muscle, salivary gland, rectal sac, ovarian tube, oviduct, receptaculum seminis, mucous gland, glandula receptaculi and vas deferens. TIV had no antigenic relationship to the nuclear-and cytoplasmic-polyhedrosis viruses of the silkworm.
