Concerning the recent progress of laboratory animal sciencein the world, in this paper, following subjects were presented : Brief history of the development of laboratory animal science in Japan including establishment of Japanese Association of Experimental Animals, quality control of laboratory animals and influence of environmental factors, laboratory animal facility, supply of well controlled animals, laboratory animal center, disease control of laboratory animals with snecial reference to hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, wllfare of laboratory animals and altanatives of animal experimentation. A proposal for the improvement of the quality and management of laboratory animals as well as animal experimentation was introduced.
