Fuefukigawa Art Library (Mr. Takeo Hatano representative director) owns many valuable archives Oiyama Masakata wrote. Among them were Oiyama's trip diary to Kyoto, where he met with prince of Arisugawa , and many books of waka and oblong cards , which include not only his own waka poem but also friends' and pupils'.Oiyama was a Shinto priest in Homi shrine of Kai from the Kansei Period to the Bunka Period. He learned classical literature with a good friend , Koshiishi Morioki(Shinto priest in Tateoka shrine). They learned under Kagami Kosho, famous teacher of military scholar Yamagata Daini.Oiyama and Koshiishi were estimated to take the guidance of waka poem in Hino Sukeki, who is the typical poet of that age. The records are left in which Hino Sukeki corrected the sentences and words written by Oiyama .This paper first introduces Oiyama Masakata's works of waka poem , and then analyzes the expressions of his waka poem.Many poets like him supported the culture of Edo, preparing the modernization which began rapidly in the Meiji Period.
