The heat-loss characteristics of hot-wire anemometer were investigated in detail in the wind-speed range from 10 to 500 cm/s. Measurements were made in a small low-speed wind tunnel which was calibrated by a heat-wake anemometer. The static characteristics of hot-wire at extremely low wind-speed are somewhat different from usual King's formula. Using calibration curves of hot-wire, possible errors in mean- and fluctuating-velocity measurements were calculated considering the non-linearity and inversion effects. Errors were found to be as large as 50 percent. Some practical ways of correcting measured data are also presented. They can be applied to the hot-wire anemometry in the turbulent fields such as free-jet, separated layer etc.
