Using a decimeter-wave spectrograph, the resonance absorption frequencies due to the interaction between the nuclear quadrupole moment and the crystalline electric field in polycrystalline iodine (I_2) and bromine (Br_2) were measured. In the case of bromine two resonance frequencies due to Br^<79> and Br^<81> were measured and the quadrupole moment ratio was estimated to be : Q(Br^<79>)/Q(Br^<81>)=1.1975±0.0010. In the case of iodine two kinds of resonance frequencies were measured at temperatures between 85℃ and liquid air temperature and were plotted as functions of temperature. The frequencies at 0°K were estimated by extrapolation of these curves. Taking the deviation of crystalline field from axial symmetry into account, the quadrupole coupling constant eQφ_zz was calculated. The value of φ_zz could be estimated by the formula which was given by Townes, and the quadrupole moment of I^<127> was obtained : Q(I^<127>)=-0.69×10^<-24> cm^2. (Received September 30, 1952)
