The transformation of Palmitamide (C_<15>H_<31>CONH_2) and Stearamide (C_<17>H_<35>CONH_2) is newly found in solid phase at about 56℃ and 64℃ respectively. Namely, a small anomaly about 150 cal/mol in specific heat occurs at that temperature. The electric conductivity and the dielectric constant of Palmitamide increase rapidly with temperature, above the transformation point. Though Stearamide shows no anomaly in the electric conductivity, it is not certain wheather it is due to the effect of impurity or the property of that substance itself. Similar transformations were found in alkali salts of long chain fatty acids at similar temperatures by P.A. Thiessen previously. As this transformation occurs near the melting point of the corresponding fatty acid, Thiessen consider that this transformation is mainly due to the property of fatty acid, and called it the "genotypical transformation". If two molecules of soaps or amides combine each other end to end like fatty acids, it may be able to explain that the transformation occurs near the melting point of the fatty acid of the same carbon number, since the effect of end groups is nearly cancelled. Above this point, this closed structure seems to break and properties corresponding to the individual end groups begin to appear.
