Japanese case particles are one of the most important parts in the beginners' class, that from the structure of sentences. And they are one of the most difficult things to learn for beginners. In the beginners' class mostly a sentence pattern in first introduced, then the meaning of the pattein is explained and exercised in many ways. Because the case particles are indispensable for the Japanese sentence patterns, their basic meanings and usages must be learned early in class. This CAI is made to test the acquirement of the case particles of Japanese. It is developed to have a clear grasp of how many and the extent to which a student has acquired the case particles after finishing the beginners' class. In this CAI the 8 kinds of basic case particles, "GA", "KARA", "DE", "TO", "NI", "E", "MADE", "O", are classified into 32 usages. 7 problems are made for each usage. Therefore 224 problems are prepared in all. These problems are always set at random. All the problems are set on a CRT, and the way of answering this test is by choosing one correct answer among 5 choices, and typing its number on keyboard. After all the answers are chosen, the test is marked by the computer and result is printed out. The letter "S", means "Shuutoku" (acquired), is marked for the usages that the student answer rightly more than 5 times (among 7 problems). And students can receive the sheet of the problems, that are judged not to have been acquired yet, for their review. By adopting this test, teachers of Japanese can easily know the state of each student's acquirement of Japanese case particles. This test also helps students to know what has been acquired and what needs to be reviewed. The data on students' answers with the other information of their attributes and background are also available. This data provides us information for further investigations, for example the corelation of the native language and wrong answers. This data may also help teachers to improve the method of teaching Japanese.
