• In this paper we will survey some definitions of a compound that have been given by some scholars and look at compounds from the syntactic and semantic perspectives, referring to the Righthand Head Rule(RHR) proposed by Williams (1981). We will propound a view that heads are usually on the right in English compounds and so listing them alphabetically from the righthand side in reverse order is much more significant than otherwise. Finally, we will attempt to list English nominal compounds alphabetically in reverse order.
