Crosslinked polyurethane lonenes with various ionene segment lengths were prepared.The effect of lonene segment length on the dynamicviscoelastic properties, tensile properties,and the degree of crosslinking was studied.These polyurethane ionenes were prepared by using PTMG 2000 and MDI as starting materials and 2-dimethylaminoethanol, N,N,N',N'-tetramethylhexanediamme.and dihelides, 1,6-dibromohexane or p-xylylenedichloride, as chain extenders or crosslinking agents. The dynamicviscoelastic measurements showed the glass transition temperature of PTMG, which indicates that the ionene and soft segments form microphase separated structure.These polyurethanes showed high 100% modulus (3.6-9.7 MPa) and high tensile strength (40.0-56.7 MPa).indicating the formation of ionic crosslinks.The concentration of effective network chains, νe/V,with ionic bond was separated from covalent crosslink by absorbing water,revealed that ionic crosslink greatly contributes to the over-all νe/V.As ionene segment length was increased,the number of crosslink sites decreased and the secondary bond strength increased due to the development of phase-separation with the aggregation of ionene segments.
