NoteEmpirical evidence shows that there exist considerable differences in efficiency among the share tenants belonging to different size-classes of holdings. The existing theoretical literature, however, does not make such distinction and treats the share tenants as if they belong to the same size-class. This paper takes into account the size-class distinction of tenants in a theoretical model in the context of measuring sharecropping efficiency. Our theoretical results provide a strong support to the empirical classification of tenants in terms of size-classes of holdings.
