p-Nitrophenyl phenylphosphonate was hydrolyzed by PDM phosphatase in water labeled with ^<18>O. Mass spectrometric analysis of the products showed that phenylphosphonic acid contained ^<18>O but p-nitrophenol did not. This indicates that PDM phosphatase cleaves the P-0 bond of the substrate.
