To study the characteristics of female professional golfers, the changes and time courses of various movement parameters in golf swing were determined using a three dimensional kinematic analysis. The subjects were 37 female golfers including 18 professional golfers (G-pro), and 19 amateur golfers (G-ama). Using two high-speed video cameras, mechanical parameters were analyzed. The club-head velocity (CHV) of G-pro exceeded that of G-ama at about O.ls before the impact (Vc). The highest CHV, which appeared at the impact, was significantly higher in G-pro (p < 0.001). The shoulder rotation velocity of G-pro exceeded that of G-ama after Vc. G-pro hit the ball with the hips rotated 45 ° past the direction of hit, whereas G-ama tended to hit the ball with the hips parallel to the direction of hit. The shoulder rotation angle at impact was also greater in G-pro than in G-ama.The so-called "cock angle" was significantly acute, in G-pro, and it continued until down to the left grip at much lower position than in G-ama. The velocities of the hip, shoulder and "cock" increased in this order, suggesting that the swing by G-pro was performed using a whip-like action.
