Section One discusses both the popularity of etymology among the reading public and the absence of etymology in EFL texts and classrooms today. Sections Two and Three introduce the American-born writer Bill Bryson and his books on English : Mother Tongue (1900) and Made in America (1994). The final section uses examples from Mr. Bryson's works to show how EFL teachers could use etymology to supplement EFL texts.
