The original Yukata culture of Japan flowered in the civil habits of the Edo period. This study makes the various aspects of the Yukata clear, to take up the Yukata of the costumes of Bunraku based on the investigation of the costumes in the National Bunnraku theaster, and to analyze about the conposition of the costumes, the sewing,the texture, the color, the pattern of the Yukata from the programs and the character role of Bunraku. Moreover, this compares it with the general Yukatain the Edo period and the Kabuki costumes and considers the uses and the purpose of the Yukata, and the characteristic design from the relation to the roles and the situations. Yukatas had the ise and the purpose as the religious costumes, the bathing coating, the raincoat, the night clothes, the working wear, the festival costumes, the bon-costumes. Some of them were the lined Yukata and the unlined Yukata. As for the design, the white and indigoblue system color, and the striped pattern were used. Generally, it reflected the fashion in the Kyoto-Osaka area in the late Edo period, but a daring idea, novel design weren't seen.
