"Seken Musuko Katagi", "Seken Musume Katagi" and "Ukiyo Oyaji Katagi" are Egima Kiseki's three most important works called "Katagi-mono", of which the last one has always been most highly valued, because it has fewer hyperbolic expressions than the other two, treats old people warmly and tells us something about what old people are like in general and what life really is. The reason the old people decribed there are true to those in reality is that the author does not use Saikaku's works as he did in the other two. In comparison with his previous works, fewer passages taken from Saikaku's works can be found. Moreover, his method in parody of making drastic changes to the endings while making the first half of the stories similar to their originals is not used so often as in the other two. This work has fewer unnatural exaggerations and unconventional endings which are usually used to make it sound comical, and this has resulted in making the sentences and conceptions more natural. I think that a limit of the reversing method and the change of Kiseki's state of things-he has made peace with Hachimonji-ya, and is able to write comparatively easily-have something to do with this change of his technique in story writing.
