In the spring of 2002, Japanese schools start a new course named "Synthetic study," which aims to help pupils and students learn in volitional and creative ways. This new course gives pupils and students chances to learn synthetically the circumstances of their schools and houses, environmental problems, and issues of social welfare across different subjects. Although communities are accordingly required to support such new ways of learning, most of them are not in the state of being able to respond to those needs. "Eco club," a volunteering group, has provided supports for classes given in schools in the city where it is based, proposing various topics dealt with and asking helps of local governments, medical institutions, and commercial and industrial bodies. The present article purports to show that "Eco club" has much more "educational power" than many communities are thought to have.
