The survey was conducted among people over age 65 living in Ota Ward in Tokyo. 1) Concerning the participation of the subjects in community activity groups. `Clubs for the aged' came first in order of the number of the participants, and `hobby and sport clubs' next, followed by `religious organizations'. (12.8% participation) 2) Most, of the participants who belonged to religious organizations compared with those who did not, proved to have good human relationships with their neighbors and through the investigation their `fellowship' was found to exhibit wider variety than that of those who did not participate. They also had better contacts. 3) The subjects were told to imagine some situations they would face at the time of a `catastrophe' and were asked if they could expect the help of their neighbors at such times. those belonging to religious organizations proved to have more trust in their neighbors. When asked who they would depend on during an evacuation, most of the people in general mentioned `chonaikai' (neighborhood associations) and the fire department, while those belonging to religious organizations proved to have high expectations of their religious organizations. 4) The percentage of female participants in religious organizations was higher than that of the male participants; woman in their early seventies reached 19.2%, while the men over age 75 accounted for only 6.6%, which was the lowest.
