In this paper, I will introduce a new term "Zero-form subject" and analyze the subject of the Japanese imperative and negative imperative sentence. "Zero-form subject" is singled out here as one state of subjects that do not appear in a sentence. Though it does not appear in a sentence, it is possible to know what it is from the verbal and non-verbal context. In that respect, the "Zero-form subject" is similar to an omitted subject, but they are not the same. When an omitted subject appears in a sentence, it does not effect the meaning of the whole sentence. The "Zero-form subject", however, appears in a sentence with a contrastive meaning, and thus effects the meaning of the whole sentence. I will analyze a subject of the Japanese imperative and negative imperative sentence and show that they have the "Zero-form subject".
