This paper is an attempt to examine the economic features of 47 cities inchugoku district. The principal factor analysis is applied to examinethe distribution of the economic features. The derived factors arerotated by normal varimax method in order to obtain the simple structure of the economic features. Then, in order to integrate the 47 cities. Ward's methods of cluster analysis is applied to the standardized factorscores. Consideration is focussed on the interpretation of these basic factors, the distribution patterns of their scores, the grouping tendencies andthe characteristics of four variables. The results are summarized asfollows : The factor analysis produced four common factors with eigenvalue greater than 1.0 (Table2,3), and by using Ward's hierarchical classification, the linkage tree was drawn as shawn as in fig. 2. Judgingfram this linkage tree, it is pointed out that 47 cities were integrated four groups : Table5.
