In this article, I extract errors from compositions made by advanced learners in the fourth Preparatory Japanese course, in order to specify the components of the Japanese language that they find difficult to acquire and to exemplify difficulties in learning Japanese. The following are the conclusions of this article: 1. There is a correlation between average length of a sentence and frequency of errors, namely, as the average length of a sentence approaches the average of a sentence used by a Japanese, learners make fewer errors. 2. With regard to grammatical errors, as learners advance in Japanese, their errors tend to localize, that is, learners make fewer errors in discourse grammar and more errors in sentence grammar. 3. Errors in particle use are most frequently found in case particles. Even after learners make great progress in Japanese, they often make errors with the particles "Wa" and "Ga".
