A clear distinction should be made when we state facts and opinions. This rule should hold universally, but there are discrepancies between Japanese and English in expressing non-factive propositions because of syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic differences of the two languages. In this paper, some useful English expressions are suggested for Japanese learners when they express their opinions.
