• Recently, the words "internationalization", "international exchange", "international cooperation" and "cosmopolitan" have come into vogue. The use of these foreign terms is apt to be interpreted as a vanity of the "elite". However, I wonder how many people know the exact meaning of these words? Professor Edwin O. Reischauer, former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, says in his book titled "The Meaning of Internationalization" : In trying to define "Internationalization", we must first dispose of one serious misconception. Many Japanese think it means Westernization of Japanese life style and values. In this paper, I will discuss the concept of "international exchange" program and how this type of program will educate students to become truly internationalized.
