The present article explores the way to use Jawi on Macintosh and Windows computers. While both operating systems support Arabic/Persian language, Jawi has some unique characters, and how to deal with those characters is the key to input Jawi. Some Unicode fonts in the Windows 2000/XP contain all characters needed for Jawi writing. The shape of the fonts, however, is not suitable for usual documents, and there is no convenient method to input characters unique to Jawi. As far as the present writer knows, the best and the most convenient way to write and edit Jawi on Windows computer is to use an application called Jawi Writer. The font used in the application, however, is not compatible to Unicode. Other applications that may be of use, such as Jawi Pro, are yet to be tested. For Macintosh computer with operating system up to OS 9, the best environment for writing Jawi is, as long as the present author knows, Laser JAWI For Arabic Resources For Macintosh, Nisus Writer and Arabic Operating System or English/Japanese System with Arabic Language Kit. As for OS X, the resource for Jawi writing is still insufficient, though Arabic language is supported in version 10.2.
