Part VII of my article examined the two Unesco campigns for safeguarding the major monuments and works of art; one concerned those in Egyptian and Sudanese Nubia and the other those in Florence and Venice. The examination was focused mainly on the problems faced by Unesco in launching the unprecedented campaigns. In Part VIII the campaign for the restoration and preservation of the Buddhist Temple of Borobudur in Indonesia is selected for an analysis of the historical background of the country and the effort of the Indonesian people in overcoming the difficulties in their nation-building. 4.
