In the last two decades, numerous researchers have reported new findings on the process of organizational change. However, the existing theories cannot fully explain the complicated organizational transformation process. The inevitable disability is imposed by "Meta-theory," tacit assumptions that underlay every theory. In this paper, we reveal and compare the Meta-theoretical assumptions of three major organizational theories, Contingency Theory, Population Ecology, and Organizational Paradigm, and make clear our future direction for the new theory development.
