The problem of scaling the auditory sensation with special reference to pitch and loudness of pure tone is analysed from the projective-geometrical and information-theoretical point of view. Three types of metrics, i.e. elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic metrics, are shown to apply respectively to the cases such as the differential limen of pitch, the articulation index, the mel scale and the response uncertainty of loudness. In particular, the information-theoretical feature of the elliptic metric is discussed in detail. Finally, the one-dimensional projective transformation is interpreted from the standpoint of "finiteness" of information processing capacity of the auditory organ.
