The surface of Al-15% Ag alloy, solution treated and waterquenched, have been scratched by razor blade and aged so as to form precipitate particles. The nature and distribution of precipitate particles thus formed in the surface layers were examined by replica method of electron microscopy. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1) At the bottom of the groove, granular precipitate particles are formed. 2) In the region about 10μ away from the botton of the groove, the mean size of the precipitate particles are small as compared with that in the undeformed region and the Widmanstatten figure is bent and distorted. 3) It exists a transitional region between the deformed and undeformed regions where the Widmanstatten figure develops preferentially in the only one direction.
