• The effect of planeness degree of end planes in the compression test of rock specimen was checked by measuring the distribution of longitudinal strain on side plane of cylindrical specimen, and by determining compressive strength of 80 specimens. The effect of capping materials on the ends of the specimen was also tested. Result of experiments shows that the unevenness of end planes exerts a great influence on the distribution of strain and compressive strength of the specimen. It was found specimen having the unevenness of 0.05mm shows compressive strength 38〜45% smaller than that of specimen having the unevenness of 0.01 mm.
