The purpose of this study was to clarify the various phenomena of the semi-batch cooling crystallization operation. The crystallization experiments of potassium sulfate from aqueous solutions in semi-batch cooling crystallizer (capacity 1000cm^3) of mixed suspension were carried out at temperature of 287K, 292K and 297K. The concentration change of potassium sulfate in the crystallizer and the generated time of primary nucleation, the suspension density and the crystal size distribution of produced crystals in the crystallizer at the end of experiment were measured. The median size (mean size) and the geometric standard deviation value of the product crystals were computed using the observed values of crystal size distributions. After transforming the population balance equations of crystal size distribution into the moment-equation, the elapsed time of the solution concentration in the crystallizer, the secondary nucleation rates, etc. were computed by the Rung-Kutta method. The various measurement values corresponded approximately with the computation value.
