• We discuss self-duality of (2,2)-metrics on oriented four-dimensional manifolds and give a characterization of such metrics in terms of totally null planes. We consider self-dual (2,2)-metrics determined by solutions of vector field equations, which are very similar to Ashtekar's equations, and we remark that such metrics on R4 with commuting Killing vectors are described by solutions of the following equations: the t/(l)-monopole equation, the Cauchy-Riemann equations, the hyperbolic equation.
