It is generally believed that the life of oil-immersed transformer is dependent primariy on the behavior of thermal deterioration in insulation materials. After all, in order to assume the life of transformer correctly, it is necessary to grasp an exact process of attaining the hot-spot temperature in the winding. The hot-spot terperature in the winding varies with the sum of the hot-spot temperature rise due to a chainge in the load cuurent and variation in ambient temperatur (cooling medum). Generally the ambient temperature varies over the year and further, over the day. If the meteorological data accumulated for many years throughout the world are carefully examined, the variation in ambient temperature is found to change almost in a sinusoidal mode.
