With the improvement of machine tools on high accuracy and high efficiency, some parts have been preventing the machine from exhibiting the full performance, when made of cast iron which has been conventionally used as machine tool body material. In this circumstance, new materials such as concrete, ceramics and FRP are getting utilized. On the other hand, cast iron itself is being reborn as a material for new fanctions, in combination with other materials by means of utilization in the form of low expansion cast iron or application of insert technique.
