The purpose of this study is to clarify the concept of "learning" of "integrated learning" in the elementary school attached to Nara women's higher normal school. I analyze the principle and style of integrated leaning by three teachers (Isaburo Kono, Shigeichi Tsurui and Heiichi Yamaji). I examine their principle and style from three view points : (1) their grasp of the meaning of "integration" (2) their grasp of the meaning of "emironment" (3) their ways of promoting children's learning. The characteristics and the concept of three teachers' integrated learning are as follows. Kono regarded "integration" as an amalgam of various subjects and environment as a resource of material for learning of subjects. For him, "integration" was the means of efficient transmission to children of knowledge about subject. His concept of learning is that children learn the subject spontaneously. Tsurui thought of "integration" as non-differentiated experience which could not be divided into each subject. He considered the quality of children's interaction with environment and therefore adopted "project" in which children selects both theme and way of learning by themselves. His concept of learning, which is different from that of learning of subject, is that children interact with environment. Yamaji introduced the activity of "play" in school. He looked upon "play" as the activity in which children grow by trying to satisfy their wants. He thought that environment inspired activity. He believed the natural development of learning attitude and need for subjects. He identified learning with activity.
