"Self-actualization" is a concept which is being regarded as important in the fields of education and welfare. In this paper, "self-actualization" is defined from a time-theoretical point of view, and the significance of it is examined. As an immanent principle of education, "future-oriented nature" must be pointed out. This "future-oriented nature" has, in the levels of principle and practice, caused lots of problems which are mutually related. In this situation, however, "self-actualization" having internally "present-oriented nature" can accomplish the radical conversion of ideas in education and learning activities.
